Vocational Skills Training Center

The Daughters of Mary Immaculate and Collaborators (DMI) is a registered religious congregation founded in 1984. DMI has international experience and serves across Asia, Africa, and the South Western Pacific. In the Central African Republic (CAR), DMI has been active since 2017, supporting vulnerable women, children, and youth in 54 villages around Bangui. Their work spans education, food security, livelihoods, and peacebuilding—impacting over 120,000 people.

DMI has provided income generation training to 1,055 marginalized girls and women in CAR, with strong results: 61% found employment, 28% became self-employed, and 11% launched group businesses. CAR ranks among the lowest globally in youth development and literacy. In Bangui, where unemployment, poverty, and migration are high, youth face a lack of opportunities and are vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation. While 64% of youth are illiterate, most have no access to formal skills training.

This project will establish a vocational training center in Bangui to serve 240 disadvantaged youth and women (ages 18–35) every six months. The center will offer training in tailoring, computer skills, beautician services, and catering—equipping participants with employable skills to reduce unemployment and increase economic self-sufficiency.
