Livestock for Farm and Rehabilitation Initiative
The Livestock for Farm and Rehabilitation Initiative is a critical component of the Kwenuha Farm and Rehabilitation Initiative in Livingstone, Zambia. Operated by the Kwenuha Women’s Association, this initiative serves women survivors of human trafficking and commercial sex work by offering them a path to recovery and independence.
Livingstone faces overwhelming economic hardship, with unemployment rates exceeding 70%. Many women and girls turn to sex work as a means of survival, increasing their vulnerability to HIV, violence, and exploitation. Kwenuha responds by providing shelter, vocational training, and community-based rehabilitation rooted in sustainable agriculture.
This project focuses specifically on purchasing and raising livestock to:
Generate income for both the women in the program and the farm itself
Provide hands-on training in animal care and small-scale farming
Enhance food security for program participants and their families
Strengthen the overall sustainability of the rehabilitation initiative
The livestock program complements existing training in tailoring, catering, and agriculture, and is integrated into broader economic empowerment efforts like microfinance clubs and small business mentorship.
