Lushomo Vocational Training Center

Lushomo Trust is a well-established organization that has been operating in Livingstone, Zambia, for over 23 years. It serves as an umbrella entity for several critical initiatives, including a 15-bed shelter for sexually abused women, a 60-bed shelter for homeless and orphaned children, and a vocational training program. The Trust's programs are centered around an outreach rescue model that specifically addresses the rampant sex trafficking situation in the border town of Livingstone, where trucks often wait for days to cross into neighboring Botswana, creating a hotspot for exploitation.

At the heart of Lushomo Trust's efforts is the Grace Center, a vocational training facility that provides at-risk young women with the skills and education they need to avoid early marriage and sexual exploitation. With the full backing of government partners, the Grace Center currently supports 60 girls, equipping them with vocational skills and financial assistance for continued education. However, the need is far greater, particularly in the nearby town of Kazungula, the only crossing point between Zambia and Botswana. Here, girls are especially vulnerable due to severe economic hardships, with over 75% unemployment and less than 15% of children reaching secondary school.

In response to this urgent need, Lushomo Trust aims to double the capacity of the Grace Center by acquiring additional land near the existing facility. This expansion will allow the center to serve more girls, offering them opportunities to learn essential skills and receive education that can break the cycle of poverty and exploitation. By empowering these young women with practical abilities and knowledge, the Grace Center is helping to create safer, more secure futures for them.
