AfterCare International was born out of a deep need for consistent, high-quality care for survivors of human trafficking.
Monica is a trauma-informed clinician and program designer with over a decade of global experience in mental health, recovery, and aftercare systems.
A certified trainer in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), she specializes in applying neuroscience to trauma-responsive care and leads trainings across diverse cultural contexts.
As founder and director of AfterCare International, Monica brings deep expertise in clinical strategy, cross-continental partnerships, and survivor-centered programming.
She’s known for turning complex systems into practical solutions—and for leading with empathy, excellence, and a vision for lasting change.
Ruth is a legal and social impact professional with a background in international law and public service.
She earned her law degree from ITAM in Mexico and an LL.M. from Boston University, beginning her career in law before transitioning into government roles focused on human rights and public safety.
In Mexico, she led national-level projects to support families of the missing and improve anti-kidnapping initiatives.
Ruth brings a rare blend of analytical precision, policy experience, and heartfelt advocacy to her work—driven by a lifelong commitment to justice, dignity, and healing.
Sidney is a filmmaker and creative strategist with 10+ years of experience working with brands like Nike, Disney+, and Under Armour.
In 2019, a life-changing trip to Southeast Asia opened her eyes to the realities of human trafficking—and set her on a new mission.
Now at AfterCare International, Sidney uses storytelling as a force for justice. She helps amplify survivor voices through powerful visual narratives that spark awareness, inspire empathy, and move people to action.
Jani’s passion for service runs deep, shaped by early values and a degree in Public Health Education from Brigham Young University.
She has supported survivors of trauma in roles like Rape Crisis Coordinator and National Volunteer Coordinator for a global anti-trafficking nonprofit.
Currently pursuing dual master’s degrees in Public Administration and Social Work, Jani co-founded The Helpers, a service club for aspiring changemakers.
She lives in San Diego County with her husband and five children, continually fueled by her belief in the goodness of people and the power of community.

Rick and Denise are dedicated to community development and humanitarian efforts, with ongoing projects in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Rick's expertise guides initiatives such as job creation projects, schools, and community outreach centers in these regions
